Liquid Ring Vacuum Pumps for Extruder Venting
Liquid ring vacuum pumps are used in plastic extrusion venting systems to pull fumes, air bubbles, and gases from the process. Because water‑filled liquid ring pumps are oil‑free, these pumps avoid potential compatibility issues between gases coming off the product and oil-filled pumps.
Popular extrusion venting solutions include 3 to 15 horespower B‑series monobloc (motor mounted) pumps or small two stage pumps (separate drive). Motor mounted pumps are compact while two stage pumps are longer. Monobloc pumps are best for 22‑25 ACFM installations and two stage pumps produce deeper vacuum (29 ACFM).
During the plastic extrusion process, plastic pellets are fed into a hopper and then melted via an internal heating element. A rotating screw pushes the melted material down a chamber and through a die at the end of the machine. The shape of the die determines what shape product is made. Common products are plastic pipe, window molding, and other shapes with angles.
The venting pump is often located next to the extrusion machine and requires little maintenance beyond inlet filters and mechanical seals.
